Indian teenager Jyoti Amge turned 18 on Friday and was crowned the Worlds Shortest Woman in the Guinness Book of World Records. Amage, of Nagpur, central India, originally held the title of the shortest teenager, but since her birthday legally made her an adult, she has now been crowned the shortest woman.
Her adult height is 24.7 inches and she weighs 12 pounds. Amge’s height also makes her only 1.8cm taller than the shortest woman in history – Pauline Muster from the Netherlands who lived from 1876 to 1895 and was 24 inches tall.
Jyoti has grown less than 1cm in the last two years and is not expected to grow any more. She has a bone growth disorder known as Achondroplasia, which is a form of dwarfism.
