Popular singer Roya complained to the General Prosecutor about the illegal actions by the Azercell mobile network operator.
Singer’s spokesperson Ulviyya Alovlu told that Azercell uses Roya’s songs in its Zengimcell service without her permission and has continued this illegal action for almost 10 years.
Roya demanded to defend her rights and to compensate material damages.
The singer’s letter of complain says that according to the article 15 of the law on copyright and corresponding rights, copyright honorary should be paid to the author except the cases where the author refuses to receive honorary and restrictions determined by this law. “Azercell Telekom Ltd violates my copyright and without my permission uses my songs in its Zengimcell service. According to the article 165 of the Penal Code (violation of copyright and corresponding rights) violation of requirements for use of folklore pieces, if it causes huge material damages, is punished by confiscation of property and fine in amount of multiplying standard financial unit by 150-500 or involvement in public work for 60-240 hours. I kindly ask you to bring the Azercel Telekom officials to justice for their illegal actions”.
Azercell’s press service was not available to learn their position too.
