Scientists of the National Taiwan University have developed an artificial tooth that can really send the information via transmitter Bluetooth, able to tell the doctor what happened to your mouth.
With the help of mouth we breathe, trying anything to taste, eat, and use it to communicate, to express emotions, making love, and even to open the bottle. But scientists believe that it is also an available resource for monitoring human health. With this in mind, the National Taiwan University researchers have suggested that if it were possible to connect the mouth to some of the sensors, it would help to better understand the behavior of the people and to identify potential health problems, such as when a person smokes or drinks too much.
Sensors in the teeth are the first step in this direction. Designed artificial tooth incorporate a three-axis accelerometer that tracks the movements of the mouth, any activity where a patient chew, drink, speak or cough, and transmits the readings to your Smartphone via Bluetooth. This information can be very useful for doctors who will be able to own a reliable information about what kind of food the patient eats, and if he has breathing problems.
Eight volunteers, five men and three women, were set a tooth with a sensor and they performed a number of tasks, such as cough, chew gum, drink water or read noisily. According to the team, the sensor was able to correctly identify 93.8 percent of oral activity.
The team is now working on the next trial product, which will transmit information over a wireless network and is powered by a rechargeable battery. After that, they will improve the correctness of the system and addresses issues of safety.
