“This year has been declared “The Year of ICT” in Azerbaijan. In January-September of 2013, internet expanded in the country. According to the international rating organizations, Azerbaijan has achieved dynamic growth of the Internet and maintained its leading position among the CIS countries,” Minister of Communications and Technologies Ali Abbasov told journalists.
The minister said that internet accessibility has eased in the country and Azerbaijan ranks the 20th in this category.
Touching upon broadcasting of digital TV, the minister added that 96% of this target has been reached. If the process goes with this speed, by the end of the year television will be digitalized by 100%: “During this period, much has been done in the field of e-government, 340 000 e-services have been purchased and this figure is gradually rising. The launching of Azerspace-1 satellite was our greatest achievement. We plan to generate approximately $10m in earnings from the services offered by Azerspace-1 satellite by the end of this year. Activities are underway to enlarge the ground-based stations, launch surveillance satellite."
