Sabunchu district of Baku is proposed to be renamed. Deputy head of Sabunchu district Elders Council Jahangir Gojayev told that current name of this district does not fit the name of the towns and villages inside it.

“Name is very important. Maybe there was carried out small work in a short time and it resulted with the name. However, it does not need to be eternalized. For example, today there is a settlement called as Sabunchu. However, the production of soap does not make more than 0.1% in the whole history of Azerbaijan's industrial production. It is not right to relate name of the district with soap”, he said.

“At one time, Sabunchu was the first in Baku for its name. I think that this district should be renamed into former president Heydar Aliyev. I put forward a proposal during my speech at scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, held in May”, Gojayev said.

Gojayev also added that the park in front of Heydar Aliyev palace and Winter Boulevard should be renamed into Heydar Aliyev, too: “Because the main ideology of this park was Heydar Aliyev”.
