Ottawa residents and visitors can now skate the entire length of the Rideau Canal Skateway after the National Capital Commission opened the last section on Saturday.
All 7.8 kilometres of the skateway are now open, with the Patterson Creek and the Hartwells Locks areas opening Saturday morning.
The NCC extended the skating sections of the canal north from the Mackenzie King Bridge up to Rideau Street, and south from the Bank Street Bridge to Dows Lake on Friday.
The first section of the skateway opened on Dec. 31. The last time the canal opened for skating before New Year's Day was in 2004, when it opened Dec. 28.
