Gubadli city

Gubadli was founded on March 14, 1933. Administrative center is Gubadli town. Gubadli toponym is related with gubadli. According to 1823’s source, Karabagh’s khan Ibrahikhalil has purchased the plot of land belonging to the village and presented it to its brother Mehdigulu. According to one of the versions, Gubadli toponym is related with the name of Sasanian lord Gubad I. Gubadli region was known as Bargushad in the history. Bargushad toponym has not been explained exactly, yet. Turkic tribe called as Bargushad lived in Nakhchivan, was met in the literature from the 50s of XIX century. Bazarchay (Bargushad), Hakari, Small Hakari, Meydan Darasi Rivers and springs are basic water sources of the region. Surface is mainly mountainous. Soils are basically brown, mountain-forest, here. Main plant cover is grassland with bushes and sparse wood. It has mountainous forests (beechen, oak, hornbeam abd etc.). Area of the forests makes 13,200 ha. Animals are: bear, wolf, lynx, fox, grey rabbit, hedgehog and etc. Birds: turaj, pheasant, pigeon and etc. Gubadli Reserve was formed in the region. Climate is mild hot and dry subtropics. Gubadli’s economy mainly consists of grain growing, animal breeding, tobacco growing, silkworm breeding and wine growing. Armenians have ransacked the Gubadli museum of history and ethnography in which more than 5,000 rare exhibits were protected. Temple in Gavur Valley belonging to IV century, Galali and Goygala monuments belonging to V century, Damirchiler sepulchre built in XIV century, Hai Badal Bridge, Lalezar Bridge, as well historical monuments in Ayin, Yusifbayli, Seytas, Garagajli, Khojamsakhli villages are now under occupation. Galali in Muradkhanli village, Goygala in Aliguluushagi village belonging to V century, Javanshir sepulchre in Yazi Duzu belonging to XIV century, two sepulchers in Damirchiler village, sepulchre in Gurjulu village belonging to XVII century, sepulchre in Khojamsakhli village belonging to XVIII century show that, there were scientific, cultural centres and praying persons in Gubadli.Administrative division includes a city, 93 villages and 31 administrative-territorial districts. Region was occupied by Armenian armed forces on August 31, 1993.
