Imishli city
The area is 189 км². The region is located in Mil-Mugan plain belonging to Kur-Araz lowland. Araz River flows from the south of region. Right bank of Araz belongs to Mugan plain, left bank – Mil plain. The area of region’s territory in Mil plain is separated by Kur River. Tugay forests consist of historical trees. There is also iron tree here. Oil wells start near Kur forests. THE region was called as Garadonlu until 1938. At present, Garadonlu is one of the villages in Mugan plain. Imishli village in Baku-Irevan railway developed roughly and the centre of Region changed to Imishli in 1938. There are many traces of cultural monuments about our history n the area of region. Faience household utensils’ age is over 3 thousand years. Giziltapa, Muukhurtapa, Garatapa are fortifications of Middle Ages. Curren Bajiravan village accords with bellicose Bajiravan city which existed in Arabian conquest. Besides, there are also historical monuments such as Gizil Tapa, Mukhor Tapa, Gara Tapa, YEddi Kurgan (Seven Barrows), Dayirman Yeri (Place of Mill), Galacha Yeri (Place of Castle) and etc. in the region.The first medical point was built in Garadonlu village in 1913 to combat the plague among the villagers of Chakhirli village. First administrative building in the new Region Centre of Imishli is Girmizi Bina (Red Building) which was constructed in 1937-1938. As a result of reforms conducted by Russian Prime Minister Stolpinin in accordance with the order of Russian Tczar in 1906, Muganstroy settlement was built in Garadonlu. Wide irrigation network was launched. Under the pretext of reforms, Russian government started to settle the Russians moved from Russia. New Russian villages like Ivanovka, Poltavka were founded in the region.Today, Imishli is one of the developed cities. One of the respectable professions in Imishli is a meliorator. Even, a meliorator settlement was built in one of the city. Treatment of land from thousand-year salt was considered as one of the main works of the population. Starting from Mingechaur, Upper Karabagh Canal flows to Araz waters in Bahramtapa, flows to the field together. Irrigation of the land increased the productivity of cotton-growing. Beside,s industrial enterprises are also developed in Imishli. Cotton plant is the most beautiful gift, presented by builders to the masters of “white gold”. From the viewpoint of architecture the construction also leaves pleasant impression. Life of Imishli is related to Araz. Products of sand-gravel pits are carried to other cities and regions of Azerbaijan. Exhibits of the Museum of History and Ethnography with the national architectural style are interesting narration from Imishli’s yesterday to today. The springs constructed in national style, kiosks looking like the products of jeweller, the walls built from brick patterns have given shape of national architecture to a city. Set of trees, colours and ornamental shrubs has been planted, in the city, during the last years. GAradopnlu region was founded in August, 1930. Garadonlu belonged to Javad province. It is considered as one of the most ancient villages of the region. Location of the are in caravan roads and on the bank of Araz River, abundance of water sources and fertile lands caused the development of agriculture, especially plant-growing. IN 1906, the first school was launched in Garadonlu and at the same time, there were many residential houses, caravanserai, mills and shops in the area. As a result of construction of Alat-Minjivan railway, population started to move from the centre of region to the area in which railway station is located. For this purpose, two-floor building was built in the area between Garadonlu village and Imishli village and centre of th region was moved here and the region was called as Imishli. At that time, the area was covered with forest and bushes. Imishli obtained city-type settlement status in 1944, city status in 1960. Water knot was launched over Araz River, in current Bahramtapa area, in 1959. Starting from here Main Mugan and Azabayov canals irrigate not only Imishli, but also Saatli, Bilasuvar and Sabirabad regions. Besides, sand-grave pits, reinforced-concrete materials plant were founded during the same years. There are 1 city, 1 settlement and 48 villages in the region.
